About Bigwaltcomputers.com
It all began around 1978 when I went to a stereo store that no longer exists named Tech Hi-Fi. After looking and drooling over all the cool stereo gear I saw a little piano device, and I asked the salesman “hey what is this”? The salesman said that it was an electric piano with a built in calculator manufactured by Casio. The mini piano was the Casio Tone VL1 which sold for around $100 dollars. The sound was “Vintage Cheesy” but I was hooked. After seeing that little electronic piano I started going to musical instrument stores looking at electronic synthesizers, samplers and drum machines. I also subscribed to Electronic Musician and Keyboard Magazine so I could see all the cool gear coming out that professional musicians used to make hit music with. As I read more and more articles in those magazines I learned music artists were starting to use computers to compose and perform music by connecting a computer to the built in Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) ports on their keyboards and drum machines. That made me curious about computers.
Around 1992 I purchased a Packard Bell 386SX computer running on Microsoft DOS 5.0 which is how I learned to use a computer. About a year later I read a book on how to upgrade Intel 386 and 486 computers, which lead me to read another book on how to build new computers from parts. Around 1994 I built my first computer and ever since then I have always built my own computers and even built a few computers for friends. I also worked as a computer technician for several years in public education.
Since computers are something that I have enjoyed working with for over 30 years I thought I would build some computer systems for home use and sell them online. I am bringing my own personal experience and philosophy to the systems that I will offer on my Bigwaltcomputers.com website because I want to sell solid systems not just what is supposed to be the latest and greatest technology.
Some technology trends are fairly new and when something is new it can cost much more than the conventional standard technology and may only have one or two little advantages that the older technology does not posses. So I will keep an eye on emerging technologies to see what will be an improvement to the computers that I build and offer to you the customer.
Since I am a small cottage / one man operation I will make every effort to keep some computer systems listed and ready to ship, but I may sell out of systems and need a few days to get more systems built and online. I hope that the short wait time does not discourage anyone from wanting to purchase a system from Bigwaltcomputers.com. Besides even large computer manufacturing companies run out of stock sometimes, so please be patient. Also feel free to submit questions to Bigwaltcomputers.com about systems I offer through my contact page.
